Residential Locksmith in Sebastopol - On-Site Fast, Price Quoted Before We Drive

Fast, Reliable Residential Locksmith Across Sebastopol

A residential locksmith call in Sebastopol usually means one of two things: you’re locked out, or a lock has stopped doing its job and you want it fixed before it fails completely. We handle both, and we quote the full price on the phone before a van rolls toward your street. Preston Locksmith & Security has been doing residential lock work in Sonoma County since 2008, and our technicians know the pre-1960 bungalows, the newer hillside builds, and the downtown Victorians that make Sebastopol’s housing stock different from Santa Rosa or Rohnert Park. Call (409) 405-4485 and a live person answers, 24/7. No voicemail tree, no callback queue, no four-hour arrival window.

Key takeaways:

• A typical residential rekey in Sebastopol runs $85 to $150 for the first cylinder, and $25 to $45 per additional cylinder, written price confirmed before we dispatch.
• Lockouts are quoted as a flat rate on the phone, typically $95 to $180 depending on time of day and lock type, with no added call-out fee on arrival.
• Sebastopol’s older bungalows often still have original mortise lock bodies from the 1920s to 1950s. We preserve and rekey these rather than drilling them.
• Every job includes the 365-Day Done Right Promise, live trackable arrival, and before-and-after photos.

Why Preston Locksmith & Security Is Sebastopol’s Preferred Residential Locksmith Company

Sebastopol residents tend to check who is actually showing up at the door. The city’s permit and business-license mix leans heavily on small local operators rather than big franchise fleets, so neighbors compare notes fast when a locksmith drills a lock that could have been picked, or quotes one price and invoices another. Our response to that is the Relay Visibility Guarantee: a written price before work begins, a live trackable arrival time, before-and-after photos of the job, and a written guarantee on every repair. Kevin Yoon founded Preston Locksmith & Security in 2008, and our technicians are background-checked, uniformed, and trained on mortise locks, pin and tumbler cylinders, and modern smart lock hardware. We serve all of Sebastopol, from the Barlow district to the neighborhoods off Gravenstein Highway, with most residential calls reached within 45 to 60 minutes.

We answer the phone with a live person, every hour of every day. The price you hear on the phone is the price on the invoice. If the repair fails within a year, we come back free. That is the 365-Day Done Right Promise, stamped on every job, no exceptions.

Locksmith Key Replacement in Sebastopol

Locksmith key replacement in Sebastopol typically costs $85 to $150 for the first cylinder and $25 to $45 per additional cylinder, and it is the right call when keys are lost, stolen, or simply worn down to the point where they no longer turn smoothly. For homes in neighborhoods like Sunset Terrace or along Healdsburg Avenue, key replacement often pairs with a rekey so the old keys stop working entirely. We confirm the exact price in writing before anyone is dispatched.

Rekeying vs. Key Replacement

Rekeying means swapping the internal pins in the cylinder so the old key no longer turns. It costs less than replacing the whole lock because the hardware stays. Key replacement, on the other hand, means cutting a brand new key to an existing code or pattern. A Sebastopol homeowner who has lost track of how many copies of a key are floating around should rekey, not just duplicate.

Key Replacement on Older Mortise Locks

Sebastopol’s 1920s to 1950s bungalows frequently still have the original mortise lock bodies in the front door. We cut replacement keys for these from the existing cylinder, and if the key is too worn, we can re-pin the cylinder and cut fresh keys on site. A mortise lock body in decent shape does not need to be thrown out. We quote the re-pin and key work up front and leave the original hardware intact.

Smart Lock Installation in Sebastopol

Smart lock installation in Sebastopol runs $185 to $380 for the install itself, with hardware costs added depending on the brand and model you choose. The job involves removing the existing deadbolt or latch, preparing the door prep to fit the new smart lock, mounting the motorized lock body, pairing the lock with your phone or keypad, and walking you through user codes and access control. A family near the Barlow recently had us install a Schlage smart lock with keypad entry because they wanted cleaner control over who could enter the house, and they did not want to hand out physical keys anymore.

Retrofit vs. New Door Prep

If your Sebastopol home has a standard 2-1/8 inch cross bore and 1 inch edge bore, most Schlage, Kwikset, and Yale smart locks mount directly with no new drilling. If your door has an older mortise lock only and no deadbolt above it, we will need to cut new door prep. We quote the door prep separately and confirm the full written price before any saw touches the door.

What Gets Installed and Programmed

We install keypad deadbolts, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth smart locks, and models that tie into Apple HomeKit or Alexa. The technician tests the lock with the door open, then closed, then locked and unlocked from both the keypad and the app. You get a quick walk-through on adding and deleting user codes, and a digital invoice with a pay link after the work is done.

Trusted Brands We Service in Sebastopol

We service and install Schlage, Kwikset, Medeco, and Yale hardware, from standard residential deadbolts to high-security cylinders. For Sebastopol’s older homes, we stock the pins, springs, and cylinder parts needed to rekey original Schlage and Kwikset locks without waiting on a parts order. When a lock does need replacing, we carry common Schlage and Kwikset deadbolts on the truck so the job finishes in one visit. Medeco work is scheduled rather than dispatched same-day, and we quote a flat per-lock price before we schedule.

Common Residential Locksmith Problems We See in Sebastopol Homes

• Original mortise lock bodies jamming on 1930s bungalows near Downtown Sebastopol. A key left in the cylinder can bind the internal pin and tumbler stack. We use non-destructive entry techniques to free the stuck key and re-pin the cylinder rather than drilling the original hardware.
• Rust and corrosion on deadbolts in the damp, foggy bottoms along the Laguna de Santa Rosa. Morning marine layer leaves moisture on exposed hardware, and cheap steel deadbolts rust from the inside out. We replace these with brass or stainless internals and rekey the cylinder to match the rest of the house.
• Short-throw latches on older doors that never quite aligned correctly. Houses from the 1950s era in Sebastopol often settle, and a door that shifts a quarter inch leaves the latch half-engaged. We adjust the strike plate or install reinforced plates so the door actually locks.
• Mixed keyways from years of piecemeal repairs. One door has a Kwikset key, another has a Schlage key, and the back door has something nobody can identify. We rekey all cylinders to a single keyway, with all work quoted per cylinder before we start.
